Description: Adults of the five common species of bark beetles that attack and kill piones in the south. The largest is the black turpentine beetle Dendroctonus terebrans; next the southern pine beetle D. Frontalis; in the middle is the coarse writing pine engraver, Ips calligraphus; then the southern pine engraver, I. grandicollis; and lastly the small southern pine engraver, I. avulsus.
